Al-Safadi stresses to Blinken the need to stop Israel’s “aggression” against Gaza and Lebanon

Amman – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reiterated, yesterday, Tuesday, the need to stop Israel’s “aggression” against both the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been waging a genocidal war on Gaza. Since last September 23, it has expanded the scope of the war to include Lebanon, and from time to time carries out bloody air strikes on Yemen and Syria.

Al-Safadi made a phone call on Tuesday evening with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, according to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a copy of which Anatolia received.

The ministry said that the two sides discussed “efforts to stop the dangerous escalation taking place in the region and to deliver adequate and immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon.”

The Israeli genocide in Gaza resulted in more than 141,000 dead and wounded Palestinians, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

While the aggression against Lebanon led to the death of 2,350 people, and the injury of 10,906, including a large number of women and children, in addition to more than 1,340,000 displaced persons, and the majority of the victims and displaced persons were recorded since September 23, according to Anatolia’s monitoring of official Lebanese data until Tuesday evening. .

Al-Safadi stressed that “stopping the Israeli aggression against Gaza is the first step towards stopping the escalation.”

He also stressed “the necessity of stopping the aggression against Lebanon and implementing Security Council Resolution No. 1701 in full.”

On August 11, 2006, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701, calling for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, after a 33-day war between Palestinian factions and the Israeli army.

He also called for the creation of an area between the Blue Line (separating Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River in southern Lebanon that would be free of any militants, military equipment and weapons, except those belonging to the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).

Al-Safadi also called for “stopping the Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank, and obligating Israel to stop violations of the holy places in Jerusalem and respect the historical and legal status quo there.”

In conjunction with the war of extermination on Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which led to the killing of 755 Palestinians, the injury of about 6,250, and the arrest of more than 11,200, according to official Palestinian data.
