Warner Bros.’s “Barbie” topped the North American box office over the weekend, taking in $155 million, according to Sunday estimates.

As for the movie “Oppenheimer”, produced by “Universal”, and it was in its first week of showing in American theaters, it came in second place, achieving $ 80.5 million, almost half of the revenues achieved by “Barbie”.

Written by expert David A. Gross from Franchise Entertainment Research “Barbie has broken records (…) no comedy has grossed more than $85.9 million in its first week of showing (over three days from Friday to Sunday).”

According to estimates by the National Association of Cinema Owners, around 200,000 people are believed to have bought tickets for both films.
The simultaneous showing of the two major films was the inspiration for a wave of jokes and comments on social networks. Some imagined, for example, the scenario of changing their clothes when moving from one to the other, while a group of derivative products expressing this trend appeared, dubbed “Barbenheimer”, which mixes the titles of the two films.

And “Sound of Freedom,” a thriller produced by “Santa Fe Films” and “Angel Studios,” came in third place, with revenues of $20.14 million.

The seventh film in the “Mission Impossible” series, which was leading the rankings last week, fell to fourth place. Paramount’s “Mission Impossible – Dead Reigning Part One,” the latest in the series starring Tom Cruise, brought in $19.5 million.

And in fifth place was the movie “Indiana Jones and the Dale of Destiny” produced by “Disney”, which came 15 years following the fourth part of the famous series, with 6.7 million dollars.

And the American star Harrison Ford once more embodies the role of the famous archaeologist, and James Mangold directed it, succeeding Steven Spielberg, whose signature was the previous four parts since 1981.

Here are the remaining films in the top ten rankings at the North American box office this week:
6. “Insidious: The Red Door” ($6.5 million)
7. Elemental ($5.8 million)
8. “Spider-Man – Across the Spider-Verse” ($2.8 million)
9. “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” ($1.12 million)
10. No Hard Feelings ($1.07 million)
