American Madison Keys announced on Saturday that she has withdrawn from the English Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam tennis tournament, following suffering an abdominal injury.
“This is not what I wish I had said a few days before Wimbledon, but unfortunately I have to retire due to an abdominal injury,” the 27-year-old, world number 24, wrote on Twitter.
The winner of six titles in her career continued, “I am very disappointed, but my health is number one and my body needs time to recover 100 percent. Lots of love for the London fans. See you next year.”
Keys lost the US Open final to her compatriot Sloane Stephens in 2017, and reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament three times (Australia 2015, 2022 and Roland Garros 2018).
