The Tunisian Football Federation announced a plan to reduce the number of foreign players in the local first division championship, starting next season.
The Professional League (the Competition Committee of the Football Association) said that it had decided to allow teams to register 6 foreign players, including players belonging to the North African Union in the 2022-2023 season.
Previously, players from North African countries were considered local players in the Tunisian League. The association stated that “the number of foreign players, including North African players, on the field in the official matches of the League 4 tournament, cannot exceed the duration of the match.”
And the Competitions Committee revealed that it will allow the registration of only 4 foreign players, including North African Union players, starting from the 2023-2024 season.
The committee called on clubs with more than 6 foreign players to respect their links with the players until the end of the contract.
Tunisian clubs include many players from North African countries, especially Algeria and Libya, following the Tunisian Federation decided to consider them local in 2018.
