Al Hilal crowned the Super Lusail Cup by defeating Zamalek 4-1 on penalties in the confrontation that brought together the champions of Saudi Arabia and Egypt at Lusail Stadium, which will host the FIFA World Cup Final in Qatar.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, as the Asian champion opened the scoring with a Nigerian goal by Odion Ighalo with a shot over goalkeeper Mohamed Awad in the absence of supervision in the 18th minute. Ahmed Mustafa Sayed (Zizou) equalized from a follow-up to Seif El-Din Al-Jaziri’s shot from goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Mayouf in the 33rd minute. .
In the penalty shootout, Al Hilal scored Odion Ighalo, Salem Al Dossary, Luciano Vieto and Andre Carrillo. While Mohamed Ashraf “Ruqa” scored for Zamalek in the penalty shootout, Ahmed Sayed Zizou and Mahmoud Hamdi Al-Wansh wasted.
Zamalek participated in the match as the Egyptian League champion, while Al Hilal participated as the Saudi League champion.
Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup on 8 stadiums, 7 of which were built for a special event, in addition to the renovated Khalifa International Stadium.
