Czech Petra Kvitova, ranked 21 in the world, qualified for the fourth round of the US Open, the last Grand Slam, by defeating Spain’s 10th Garbine Muguruza 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (12-10).
The 32-year-old will face American Jessica Pegula (8), who defeated China’s Yu Yuan (142) in two sets 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-0.
Belarusian Victoria Azarenka advanced to the same round, defeating Croatian Petra Martic 6-3, 6-0.
