After waiting 19 years to lead a team to a title as coach, Milan coach Stefano Pioli’s mood was sour when his Serie A medal was stolen on Sunday before police returned it to him.
Milan won its first domestic league title in 11 years, by defeating Sassuolo 3-0 in the last round of the season, and following the final whistle, the team’s fans stormed the field en masse, and one of the fans stole the Pioli medal around his neck. The coach asked to return it via social media, joking that it was the only one he had.
Police tracked down the medal following a fan posted a photo of it on Instagram with the caption: “Thank you, Bewley,” to return it to the coach.
Pioli won the award for the best coach of the season, following leading Milan to the title of Serie A, noting that the last crowning of Milan with the Calcio title was in the 2010/2011 season with coach Massimiliano Allegri.
