FIFA announced on Friday that Ecuador will play in the 2022 World Cup following FIFA rejected Chile’s claim that Ecuador had pushed ineligible player “Bayron Castillo” to participate in the qualifiers.
The Chilean Football Association asked FIFA last month to rule on the eligibility of an Ecuadorean player, claiming he used a fake passport and birth certificate, casting doubts over Ecuador’s participation in this year’s World Cup.
“After reviewing the position of all parties involved and considering all documents, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to terminate all proceedings initiated once morest the Ecuadorian Football Federation,” FIFA said in a statement.
Ecuador is one of 4 countries in South America that has qualified so far directly to the World Cup in Qatar, along with Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
Fifth-placed Peru competes in the international playoffs next week.
