Manchester United did not disclose the duration of the contract, but a source familiar with the deal told Archyde.com that Martinez will sign a five-year contract, with a clause allowing for an additional year extension.

The 24-year-old, who can also play in midfield, will be Manchester United’s third deal with coach Eric ten Hag, following signing Dutch left back Tyrell Malacia and Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Ten Hag coached Martinez for three seasons at Ajax following the player moved to the Netherlands from Argentina’s Devenza Justicia, in May 2019. Martinez played 118 games with the Dutch giants.

Manchester United were interested in including a new defender following suffering in the back line last season, as he conceded 57 goals, the most goals among the first six teams in the league, and more by 31 goals than champion Manchester City.
