French world number 17 Caroline Garcia reached the quarter-finals of the US Open tennis tournament, for the first time in her career, by defeating American Alison Riske (29) 6-4, 6-1.

Garcia has already reached this role in a major tournament once, at Roland Garros 2017.

The 28-year-old has been making outstanding performances recently and arrived in New York following winning the Cincinnati AFC Championship and unbeaten in her last 12 matches.

The French have previously lost all three of their encounters once morest the American.

“Alison is a very strong player, she is a fighter and she moves well but I was ready for that,” she said following the win.
