Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) will start issuing the new AED20 note on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 as part of the Youth Day commemorations.

The new 20-dirham note is being issued as part of a new series of banknotes and coins that highlights Morocco’s rich architectural heritage and socio-cultural development, BAM said in a press release.

The obverse of the note includes the portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom’s coat of arms, as well as architectural motifs inspired by Moroccan gates and a stylized landscape of the “Al Qaraouiyine” University in Fez, the same source reported.

The reverse side of the banknote includes artistic representations of the Rabat Grand Theatre, the “Mohammed VI” Museum of Modern Art and the stands of the sports centre, as well as a stylized view of the “Ait Ben Haddou” Kasbah.

This new banknote integrates many cutting-edge anti-counterfeiting elements, including dynamic color-changing security lines, iridescent stripes on the back, embossed patterns perceptible to the visually impaired, and progressive character numbering.

All stages of design and production of the new banknote were fully completed using the Moroccan technology of Dar As-Sikkah, the press release concluded.
