Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi said that Iraq “has a direct interest in achieving understandings between the countries of the region and achieving regional stability.”
Al-Kazemi added, in an interview with “Al-Sabah” newspaper, which was reported, on Saturday, by the Iraqi News Agency “Ana”, regarding the talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia hosted by his country: “Because we have good relations with the two parties and with various regional and international parties, we were able to create a positive dialogue atmosphere on the The land of Iraq, much of it undeclared.
He continued, “The brothers in the Kingdom and Iran are dealing with the dialogue file with high responsibility and the requirements of the current situation in the region, and we are confident that the understanding will soon be reached, God willing.”
He stated: “There is a real and wide breakthrough in the relations between all the countries of the region, supported by a firm conviction and sound intentions that the future of the region depends on starting to view it as a system of converging and not intersecting interests, and that this system cannot devote itself to economic construction and catch up with global development without solving its problems and whistling its crises.
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, on Tuesday, that the Saudi-Iranian talks “may pave the way for the return of diplomatic relations,” and added that “Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi was present in the round of negotiations.”
And the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein said, earlier, that the talks between the Saudi and Iranian sides were “positive.”
In previous statements, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzad described the fifth round of talks that his country is conducting with Saudi Arabia as “comprehensive, good and serious, but it has not yet reached the stage of real political dialogue.”
Zadeh added, in a press conference, “If the negotiations with Saudi Arabia rise to the political level, it is likely that we will witness rapid progress,” according to the Iranian news agency, “IRNA.”
