Al-Hilal Saudi Club announced the departure of its Argentine coach, Ramon Diaz, who had previously left the country in mid-May, to stand by his family, who had been involved in a traffic accident.
Al-Hilal published, on his Twitter account, a picture of Diaz, accompanied by a comment in English, “Thank you, Ramon and Emiliano, for everything.”
Emiliano, Diaz’s son, took over the supervision of the capital’s club instead of his father during his absence.
Al-Hilal had saved its season by winning the King’s Cup title at the expense of Al-Wahda on penalties, following losing the AFC Champions League title by losing to Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds, and occupying third place in the local league now, far behind leaders Al-Ittihad.
And last month, Diaz, whose contract with the club expires this June, bid farewell to the players and wrote a message to the Al-Hilal fans on his Instagram account: “I came here to face a professional challenge and it became part of my life. I always felt that this group of players were my children, so thank you for your support.” All the moments we spent together.
The former international striker continued in his farewell message: “I will carry in my heart and forever the treatment I received from the people of this country.”
Diaz, 63, led Al-Hilal for two periods, the first between 2016 and 2018 and the second starting from 2022, during which he won the league title twice and finished runner-up in the AFC Champions League twice, and reached the last Club World Cup final once morest Real Madrid.
