After two years of pandemic having paralyzed cultural activities, the theater sector, heavily impacted, wishes to see a wind of renewal blowing on theatrical activity.
It is in this sense that the Al Fida National Theater Festival was born, for the first time in the greater Casablanca region, under the theme “Towards a revival of theatre”.
The curtain was lifted last night on the 1st edition of the Al Fida National Theater Festival. A cultural event which will continue until August 14 in Casablanca and which aims to breathe new life into theatrical activity in the Al Fida-Mers Sultan district prefecture.
Mohamed Glouine, organizer of the festival and president of the Al Fida district, said in a statement to M24 that the event seeks to promote artistic and cultural activity in this district which is full of important talents and skills in the fields artistic, through a program rich in activities supervised by pioneers of the theatrical field.
The opening of the festival was marked by the presentation of a play by the “Al Machehad Al Massrahi” troupe from Kenitra, which recounts the ordeal endured by the prisoners of the Tindouf camps and their psychological and physical suffering.
Several other diversified theatrical performances, addressing a variety of themes, will be on the menu of this edition which knows the participation of the various troupes from Casablanca but also from other cities of the Kingdom.
Prizes rewarding the best theatrical composition, the best staging, the best scenography, the best male and female interpretation, the best technical team, in addition to the Grand Prix of the festival will be awarded before the closing of the event.
Other activities are also included in the program, namely conferences, theatrical workshops, zajal readings and the signing of a theatrical work.
Noting that this edition bears the name of a theater actor, to whom it pays homage. This is the late El Houry Houssine. An icon of cultural and theatrical action who particularly contributed to the artistic and theatrical influence of Al Fida-Mers Sultan, a prefecture which experienced great artistic effervescence in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
Tribute will also be paid to other theatrical figures of Al Fida-Mers Sultan in recognition of their valuable contribution to cultural and artistic development.
