Al-Burhan issues a decree to lift the state of emergency across Sudan

A brief statement from the media office of the President of the Sovereign Council said: "In the context of creating the atmosphere and purifying the atmosphere for a fruitful and meaningful dialogue that achieves stability for the transitional period, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a decree to lift the state of emergency in all parts of the country.".

And earlier on Sunday, the Sudanese Security and Defense Council recommended during its meeting a partial lifting of the state of emergency imposed in the country since last October 25, and the release of all detainees under this case.

During the past days, international pressures to lift the state of emergency have increased, as the Security Council called on the Sudanese authorities to create the necessary climate for the success of their efforts. The Resistance Committees and other parties leading the current movement in the Sudanese street say that the state of emergency imposed in the country has caused major violations during the past months.

Hundreds were arrested, and peaceful protests were faced with numerous violations, as a result of which dozens were killed, the last of whom were two people in the protests that took place in the southern Khartoum region, on Saturday.

But the current authority says that declaring a state of emergency was necessary to maintain security and prevent lawlessness.
