Al-Azhar said in a statement that “the aggression on Lebanon resulted in the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of Lebanese, including women and children, and the displacement of thousands, amid unprecedented and unjustified international and international silence.”
Al-Azhar stressed that the “Zionist occupation’s attack on Lebanon is nothing but evidence of its criminal intentions” and its day and night efforts to turn the Middle East into an arena for wars.
Al-Azhar stressed that “Israel’s plan is to expand the scope of conflicts to include other countries and regions, after turning Gaza into hills of rubble, waterfalls of blood, and thousands of civilian and innocent victims,” which threatens the fate of entire peoples.
Al-Azhar asked in its statement, condemning: “Where is the international community in curbing this arrogant terrorist entity?! Why has everyone remained silent against the hideous terrorism that has made it permissible to kill men, women and children without conscience?! Why has the world not responded to the cries of women and children in Palestine and Lebanon?! Are there mutual strategic interests with this terrorist entity?! Or has the global conscience died?!”
In its statement, Al-Azhar called on the international community to take quick action to stop this “Zionist aggression and stop the shedding of the blood of innocents and civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.”
Al-Azhar expressed its full solidarity with the Lebanese people and its complete rejection of any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territory.
The war between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah entered a new phase after Israeli army aircraft launched intensive air strikes over the course of two days on various locations in Lebanon, which were met with operations by the Lebanese factions.
Large areas of Lebanon were subjected to Israeli raids, including the capital Beirut, dozens of villages in the south, the Bekaa, Nabatieh, Baalbek-Hermel, the towns of Mays al-Jabal, Aitaroun, Houla, Taybeh, Markaba, Bani Hayyan, Jabal al-Rayhan, the heights of Iqlim al-Tuffah, Bint Jbeil, Hanin, Zawtar, and the Nabatieh region in southern Lebanon, and the areas surrounding the Shaara and Harbata regions and the areas surrounding the towns of Shamstar, Taria, and Bouday in eastern Lebanon.
The death toll from the Israeli bombing of southern and eastern Lebanon has risen to 558 dead, including 50 children and 94 women, and 1,835 wounded, according to the latest statistics announced by Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad.
