Syria – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed that creating solutions to the challenges and problems in the country is a cumulative process in which dialogue plays a major role.
Al-Assad said during his meeting with a group of Baathist economics professors: “Creating solutions to our challenges and problems is a cumulative process in which dialogue plays a major role because it creates the correct vision and policies.”
He continued: “Dialogue cannot be productive on the level of major economic, social, and political issues unless it is systematic, comprehensive, and continuous at the level of society, institutions, and the media, and between and among various segments and sectors, and supported by a scientific, practical, and academic mind.”
Al-Assad added: “When we talk regarding support as stemming from ideology or a charitable motive, it will not be successful. No country or society follows this approach. When we see subsidies as part of the economy, only then does it turn into a beneficial situation. Support is necessary. Even the most capitalist countries provide support, but the form of support is different, and the mechanisms are different.”
The meeting included discussions regarding the required identity of the Syrian economy, regarding socialism, regarding support policies and what is wrong with them and in return, development and economic growth policies, regarding the public sector and its role in the state, and regarding partnership with the private sector in reviving production.
