Al-Ahly of Egypt receives a boost before facing Sun Downs

Al-Ahly, the defending champion, received a big boost with the return of more than one injured player before facing Sun Downs in the group stage of the African Champions League next Saturday.

Al-Ahly announced on its website that the duo Ali Maaloul and Mohamed Abdel Moneim returned to group training following missing a match that ended in a 4-0 victory over Misr El-Maqassa in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Tunisian left-back Maaloul was suffering from muscle fatigue in the leg, while Abdel Moneim, Egypt’s defender, suffered a head injury.

Al-Ahly began the defense of the African title with a 0-0 draw in the hospitality of the Sudanese Al-Hilal, and will play with Sun Downs in the third round, following the first round once morest Al-Merreikh was postponed due to the team’s participation in the Club World Cup.

Al-Ahly also announced that defender Ayman Ashraf is undergoing physiotherapy sessions to recover from a knee injury, while defender Mahmoud Metwally returned to training following a medical trip in Qatar in the past weeks.

Sayed Abdel Hafeez, Al-Ahly’s football director, said: The Champions League has different motives this season, as the team seeks to win the title for the third consecutive season.

Al-Ahly leads the Egyptian League with 22 points from eight matches, two points behind Pyramids, who played the same number.
