Aga Khan University Launches Innovative Leadership Development Program

The Aga Khan University (AKU) has announced the launch of the Leadership and Ethical Development for Senior Healthcare Professionals (LEADS) program, an innovative initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of healthcare leaders in East Africa.
The program, spearheaded by AKU’s East Africa region, focuses on equipping experienced healthcare professionals with the essential skills and knowledge to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare administration and leadership.
“We are thrilled to launch this timely program that addresses a significant need in the region,” said Dr. Sulaiman Shaheen, Dean of the Medical College at AKU. “LEADS aims to empower healthcare leaders with the vision, expertise, and ethical compass necessary to drive positive change within their institutions and communities.”
Addressing Pressing Healthcare Challenges
East Africa faces a multitude of pressing healthcare challenges, including a rapidly growing population, an increasing burden of chronic diseases, and a shortage of qualified healthcare workers.
“LEADS will equip healthcare professionals with the strategic foresight and adaptive leadership skills needed to address these complex issues effectively,” highlighted Dr. Zeenatcse, Chair of the Department of Community Health Sciences. “Participants will develop a deep understanding of leadership principles, ethical decision-making, quality improvement methodologies, and strategic planning, all essential for building robust and resilient healthcare systems.”
The comprehensive curriculum of the LEADS program will be delivered through a blend of interactive workshops, case studies, mentorship opportunities, and real-world application projects.
