AKMU’s Lee Su-hyun has joined as a voice actor for the animated film ‘Letters of Love’ (directed by Kim Yong-hwan).

According to distributor Lotte Entertainment, Lee Soo-hyun will be challenging her first voice acting role in ‘Yeon’s Letter’ as the main character So-ri. So-ri, played by Lee Soo-hyun, is a 17-year-old girl who goes to find a letter left by Ho-yeon, who used to sit in the same seat as her at her new school. Lee Soo-hyun, who has expressed music with her clear and elegant voice and rich sensibility, is drawing attention to the deep emotions she will show after transforming into a voice actor.

Lee Soo-hyun shared her thoughts on participating, saying, “I had so much fun watching ‘Letters of Love,’ which was being made into an animation, that I wanted to see it before anyone else. I thought it would be an honorable opportunity to act with an original voice, so I decided to take on the challenge.”

‘The Letter of Yeon’ is a full-length animation that depicts the story of Sori, who was bullied by a group of students while trying to help a friend who was being bullied and ended up transferring to a rural school, and discovers a letter from Hoyeon who used to sit in the same seat as her. It is based on the webtoon of the same name by Jo Hyun-ah, which was serialized as a 10-part summer special on Naver Webtoon in 2018.

The webtoon ‘Yeon’s Letter’ created a solid fandom at the time of its serialization, garnering a hot response and receiving explosive acclaim as a well-made work, recording a 9.98 star rating. The book version published after the serialization also became a bestseller, and after the confirmation of production of a feature-length animated film for theaters, it garnered much anticipation from the audience.

In addition, this film has been officially invited to the Special Screening section of the 2024 Ottawa International Animated Film Festival (OIAF), raising even greater expectations. The Ottawa International Animated Film Festival (OIAF) is the largest animation film festival in North America and is considered one of the top three animation film festivals in the world, along with the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and AnimaFest-Zagreb International Animated Film Festival.

“We are honored and thrilled to present the world premiere of director Yong-hwan Kim’s impressive Korean animated film Letter of Love,” said Chris Robinson, artistic director of the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival (OIAF), which invited Letter of Love. “Letter of Love is a work that represents the fusion of artistry and storytelling,” he explained his reason for the invitation.

To celebrate the ‘2024-2025 Korea-Canada Year of Cultural Exchange’, the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival (OIAF), which will co-host a special animation exhibition with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), and the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF), will be held from September 25 to 29. ‘The Letter of Love’ will first meet the international audience through the film festival and then be officially released in Korea.
