Akira Toriyama, the creator of “Dragon Ball”, passed away at the age of 68

Akira Toriyama, the successful manga artist (Japanese comics) and creator of the TV series “Dragon Ball”, passed away at the age of 68 following a stroke. The success of the original series and those that followed made Dragon Ball one of the most beloved and influential anime series in history.

Akira began producing the series in 1984, and in 1986 it went live in Japan. The sequels to the series, “Dragon Ball Z” and “Dragon Ball GT” were broadcast in Israel from the beginning of the 2000s and became extremely popular. The series has had many sequels, full-length films and video games. The series’ media franchise is the 15th highest grossing in the world.

Akira began his journey at the age of 23, when he submitted a short manga story to one of the magazines. As mentioned, this week his studio announced his death as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage. Thus came to an end the career of one of the most influential Japanese producers on popular culture.
