Kuwait City/Riyadh/Doha: The report that India’s new budget airline, Akasha Air, is launching low-cost services to Gulf countries has spread joy among expatriates. CNBC TV18 reported that the international services will start by the end of March 2024. Run the first phase of service to the cities of Kuwait City in Kuwait, Doha in Qatar, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Riyadh. Akasha Air CEO Vinay Dubey said that negotiations are underway for the approval of the governments of Kuwait, Saudi and Qatar. It is expected to be available within four months at most. The company had received permission from the Indian Ministry of Aviation last September to operate overseas services.
Akasha Air, a brand of SNV Aviation Pvt Ltd, is headquartered in Mumbai. Founded by Vinay Dubey and Aditya Ghosh, investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala holds a 46% stake in the airline. After receiving its first Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, the airline commenced commercial operations on 7 August 2022 with its first flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Vinay Dubey said that Aaksha aims to have a fleet size of around 72 aircraft within 5 years. Initially the flights will be from metro cities to tier-2 and tier-3 cities and major cities across India. The airline currently has 20 aircraft flying to 16 destinations. An order for 56 aircraft has also been placed.
