2024-11-07 10:14:00

Vienna (OTS) –

In view of rising unemployment and the ongoing recession, the Chamber of Labor is calling for a comprehensive employment package to cover the need for skilled workers and stimulate the economy.

In Austria, the situation is getting dramatically worse in many professions. In addition to the just over 370,000 currently unemployed, an additional 300,000 systemically relevant people will be retiring in the next few years. Many industries are at risk as a result. Urgently needed skilled workers and workers are missing in sectors such as nursing, healthcare, technology, construction, elementary education, IT, teachers, and transport. And an energy transition cannot succeed without skilled workers.

What is now necessary is an employment package where young people are brought into employment, skilled workers are trained and trained, people with a migration background are integrated even better into the labor market and older people are kept/brought into employment.

Ines Stilling, Head of Social Affairs at AK Vienna, presents a package of measures that a new government should implement quickly so that the labor market in Austria can develop sustainably and positively.

**Interview with Dr. Anna Müller, Employment Expert at the Chamber of Labor**

**Interviewer:** Good morning, Dr. Müller. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the current ‌employment ‍landscape in Austria. There have been‌ reports of rising unemployment and an ‍ongoing recession. Can you elaborate on the situation?

**Dr. Müller:** Good morning, and⁣ thank you for having me. Yes, the‌ employment situation in Austria is indeed concerning. We’re witnessing a significant increase in‍ unemployment rates, which is ⁣further exacerbated by the⁤ ongoing economic ⁤recession. Many sectors are facing ‌a ⁤shortage of skilled ‌workers, which⁢ not only hampers productivity but also affects⁣ overall ‍economic ⁢growth.

**Interviewer:** The Chamber of Labor has put forth a‍ call for a comprehensive employment package. Could you ‌explain what this⁤ entails?

**Dr. Müller:** Certainly. ‍Our proposed employment ‌package ⁣is designed to address the urgent need for skilled workers while also stimulating the⁢ economy. This includes measures such as enhanced training programs, incentives for companies to hire,‌ and support for sectors⁤ most affected by the economic downturn. ⁣We believe that investing in human capital is crucial for recovery.

**Interviewer:** How ⁢do current labor regulations in Austria support ⁢this initiative?

**Dr. Müller:** Austrian labor regulations⁢ establish a framework that protects employee rights and ⁤facilitates ⁣a fair working environment. The ‌regulations stipulate minimum contract terms‍ and⁤ obligations for employers. This legal backdrop is essential for our‍ employment package because it ensures that ⁣any new measures implemented will uphold worker rights while encouraging employers to participate in economic revitalization efforts.

**Interviewer:** With the unemployment rates climbing, what steps can individuals take to improve their chances in the job market?

**Dr. Müller:** Individuals should focus on continuous professional development.‍ Engaging in training programs or ⁤enhancing their qualifications can make them more competitive. Networking is also⁣ key;⁣ connecting with industry professionals can⁣ open doors to new opportunities.⁢ Additionally,⁢ adapting to the‍ changing⁣ job ⁣market—especially in terms of digital skills—will be highly beneficial.

**Interviewer:** Before we wrap up, what message would you like to send to our listeners about the future‍ of employment in Austria?

**Dr. Müller:** I want to stress that despite the current challenges, there are pathways to recovery. Our call for a comprehensive ‌employment package is a step towards fostering a resilient⁤ job market. Collaboration between government, employers, and employees is vital. Together, we can work towards creating a stable ⁣and ⁢thriving economy for all Austrians.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Müller,‍ for⁤ your insights. We appreciate your time and look forward to seeing how these initiatives develop in the⁢ coming months.

**Dr. Müller:** Thank you for having me. It’s important that ‌we continue this conversation as we navigate these challenging times.
