Linz From the point of view of AK President Andreas Stangl, the new care reform package passed by the Council of Ministers on May 24th is not a big hit. The support for caring relatives (such as the increase in funding for 24-hour care, more relief talks or the extension of the relatives’ bonus) is welcome, as is the upgrading of skills for qualified nurses (in future they will also be allowed to carry out initial classification making nursing allowance and ordering medical products) and facilitating permeability in nursing training. “However, there is still a lack of real relief for employees in care“, criticizes Stangl.

The AK Oberösterreich demands immediate noticeable relief for the nursing staff. “These include, for example, the hard-work pension and, above all, future-proof personnel calculation models that create roster security and put an end to permanent replacements“, says AK President Andreas Stangl. Errors in the care grant have not been repaired (e.g. the increase in the weekly hours required for this from 20 to 25, which makes training more difficult, especially for women with care responsibilities) and access to care is still not attractive enough and does not secure a livelihood.

In addition to other measures, we also welcome the information and awareness campaign for young carers. The AK is happy to contribute its expertise from current projects. But above all, real relief measures are needed for the staff. Due to the massive political failure in the health and care sector, the security of supply is permanently endangered. This is proven daily by the vacancies in the old people’s and nursing homes and the unoccupied beds in the hospitals. But the overcrowded ambulances also show how necessary it is to finally act‘ says Stangl.

Among other things, the AK calls for a repair of the nursing bonus, a real relief week for all health and social professions, a training offensive to cope with demographic change and a massive increase in funds in the financial equalization for more nursing staff. The Chamber of Labor reaffirms its no to nursing teaching in this context.
