Ajax Amsterdam striker Brian Proby joked that he hopes current and Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag will try to bring him to Old Trafford within two years.
Ten Hag will take over at Manchester United, succeeding interim coach Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season, once he completes his fifth and final season with the Dutch giant.
Ten Hag is currently on track to win the league title for the third time, with Ajax leading the competition by four points over PSV Eindhoven.
Ten Hag has been closely associated with United coaching for months, and the club confirmed the appointment last week.
“I am very happy for him and he really deserves it following all he did with Ajax,” Probe said of Ten Hag during a press conference, according to the British newspaper, “Daily Mail”. If he brings me with him in two years…. no no I am not joking!”
And Probe, who returned to Ajax from Leipzig in January, burst out laughing following this request, before everyone in the room laughed.
The 20-year-old striker scored four goals in seven league matches since returning to the Ajax squad during the last Mercato.
After his appointment as Manchester United coach, Ten Hag said: “It is a great honor to be appointed as Manchester United coach and I am very excited regarding the challenge ahead. I know the history of this wonderful club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of achieving the success it deserves.”
“It will be difficult to leave Ajax following these wonderful years and I can assure our fans of my full commitment and focus on finishing this season successfully before moving to Manchester United.”
And if the new coach, Eric Ten Hag, succeeds in repeating what he achieved at Ajax Amsterdam, the English club’s fans will regain their past glories.
United appointed Ten Hag as their new coach, last Thursday, leaving Ajax following becoming one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Dutch club.
During four and a half seasons with Ajax, Ten Hag won five titles to carve his name among the five best coaches in the club’s history. But the numbers he achieved are the most impressive.
52-year-old Ten Hag led Ajax in 138 matches in the Eredivisie, winning 109 matches and suffering only 16 defeats. During this period, the team scored 409 times, while conceding 109 goals.
But the impressive numbers were overshadowed by the drama of the club’s march to the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2018-2019 season, when the team climbed from the preliminary rounds to defeat Real Madrid and Juventus before losing in the semi-finals with a last gasp once morest Tottenham Hotspur.
This remarkable period played a role in shaping the reputation of Tin Hag, who is known for his adventurous attacking approach with tactical discipline and his great ability to develop young players, some of whom later joined major European clubs.
Manchester United explained the fundamental reason behind the appointment of Ten Hag, with John Murtaugh, United’s director of football, saying: “During his last four years with Ajax Amsterdam, Eric has proven to be one of the best and most successful coaches at European level through the attractive attacking performance of his team and his commitment to developing young players. .
