In this edition of VZ Social, attention for Géronimo Rulli, who throws nice words at the record-breaking Remko Pasveer on the club channels of Ajax.
When the starting eleven for the match against FK Vojvodina was announced on Thursday, it became clear that Pasveer would set a record. At 40 years and 260 days, the experienced goalkeeper became the oldest Ajax player ever to play.
With that, Pasveer took over the record from Maarten Stekelenburg, who became the new record holder against sc Heerenveen more than two years ago. The now retired goalkeeper was then 39 years and 231 days old, more than a year younger than Pasveer last Thursday.
“Age is just a number,” Ajax writes in an Instagram post in which the new record holder is honored. Fellow goalkeeper Rulli is quick to congratulate his friend. “You deserve it passi!”, the Argentine goalie writes in the post. Rulli himself was not part of the selection on Thursday due to his participation in the Olympic Games with Argentina Under 23.
Even if Rulli is back, Pasveer seems to be going into the season as first choice at Ajax. The veteran also has an advantage over Diant Ramaj, although rumor has it that this may have to do with Ajax’s dire financial position.
The Amsterdammers have to sell this summer and could make a hefty transfer fee from Ramaj. In any case, some Ajax fans hope that the young German will soon be back between the posts.
“Yes, great, Ramaj again,” an Instagram user responded under the post. And: “Ramaj can come back in after today,” said another after Thursday’s match. Pasveer gave a hesitant impression at times. The Tukker looked very uncertain, especially in the early stages, although that did not cost Ajax their heads in the end. Farioli’s men triumphed 1-0.
