Ajax suffered a loss in the past financial year. This became apparent on Thursday from the annual figures of the Amsterdam football club with a listing on the Damrak.

In the past year, which ran from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, a loss of 9.8 million euros was recorded. A year earlier there was a profit of 39.0 million euros. The sharp decline in profit is the result of lower European premiums and lower results from transfers.

“From a sporting point of view, the season for Ajax 1 men was disappointing,” the club said.

Turnover fell by 23 percent to 152.0 million euros due to lower European premiums and lower merchandise turnover. However, costs also fell by 11.4 million euros to 191.3 million euros due to a decrease in player salaries and purchasing costs as a result of lower merchandise turnover.

Ajax received 81.5 million euros from transfers, mainly thanks to the transfers of Mohammed Kudus and Edson Álvarez to West Ham United and of Jurriën Timber to Arsenal.

After depreciation of compensation amounts, the transfer result amounted to 31.3 million euros.

After processing this loss, Ajax’s equity amounted to 226.4 million euros.

Ajax again expects a negative net result for the current 2024/2025 season. “This is caused by the current cost level in relation to participation in the UEFA Europa League on the one hand and the transfer result achieved to date on the other,” the football club said. “With a view to sustainable financial health, additional structural cost reductions are being implemented this season.”
