Bergwijn was born on October 8, 1997 in Amsterdam and came over from English Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2022. On July 31, 2022, he made his debut in the first team in the Ajax – PSV match for the Johan Cruijff Shield: 3-5. The international, who previously played in the Ajax youth academy, played 80 official matches for the first team and scored 29 goals.
Technical director Alex Kroes: “Steven and Ajax have made no secret of the fact that if a good offer came from abroad, he would make the move. That is now the case at the last minute and this gives the club the necessary financial space to hopefully bring in a desired replacement in the short term. We wished our captain from last season much success in the rest of his career.”
