Daressalam, Tanzania (ots/PRNewswire) – Airtel Money Tanzania, in partnership with TerraPay, a cross-border payment network, has launched an international payment service that enables Airtel Money customers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to make purchases at points of sale using their Airtel Money account at no additional cost. This announcement follows the recent launch of the 10% Fly Dubai discount announced in July.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam announcing the new partnership, Airtel Money Director Andrew Rugamba said “Airtel Tanzania is committed to providing innovative solutions that meet our customers’ daily needs and add value. By launching Airtel Money in partnership with TerraPay in the UAE, we aim to address the challenges our customers face when traveling to Dubai. We recognize the Government’s commendable international diplomatic policies that promote stronger trade relations with various countries, including the UAE. The increasing number of Tanzanian travelers visiting the UAE for various purposes such as trade, tourism, official visits and government missions is a clear sign of the growing demand. Thanks to our partnership with TerraPay, travelers no longer have to carry large amounts of cash or go through the hassle of exchanging money every time they travel to the UAE.”
To access Airtel Money’s cross-border merchant payments via TerraPay, our Airtel Money customers can follow the simple steps below.
Step 1. Airtel Money customers need to visit any branded retailer in UAE. Step 2. The merchant initiates the transaction at the POS terminal. Step 3. The Airtel Money customer will receive a prompt to enter their PIN and confirm the transaction. Step 4. The Airtel Money customer will receive a confirmation SMS once the transaction is completed.
Rugamba emphasized that Airtel Money is continuously evolving to become more inclusive and offer faster, more convenient, secure and cost-effective services. The wide range of services available through Airtel Money will not only increase its usage but also consolidate Airtel’s position as the preferred service provider.
Willie Kanyeki, Regional Director for East and Southern Africa bei TerraPay, spoke regarding the importance of the partnership with Airtel Money Tanzania. He described the partnership as a strategic initiative aimed at promoting financial inclusion in the country and encouraging the transition to a cashless economy. He said, “The partnership of Airtel Money and TerraPay demonstrates Airtel Money’s commitment to its customers. They continue to offer products and services that customers can use anytime, anywhere – a principle that TerraPay lives by.”
