A builder from the city of Leeds (in England) managed to recover his stolen vehicle with the help of a AirTag. Paul Conway had his car stolen following one of his employees left the keys on the dashboard.
Luckily, Conway had placed an Apple tracker on the vehicle; the gadget was actually a Christmas gift given by his wife. Only then was the man able to map the vehicle, which was on its way to Bradford.
With help from the police, the builder found the car on a residential street. Relieved by this, Conway said that the forgotten keys on the dashboard would invalidate the theft insurance, avoiding a cost of at least US$35,000.
Launched in 2021, AirTags have already helped many people around the world, as we frequently report. Still, the technology has also raised concerns regarding possible misuse for stalking purposes.
As of iOS 17, it’s worth remembering, trackers can now be shared with up to five people. Since the tracker was launched, however, Apple has had to make some adjustments aimed at users’ privacy.
