The anti-stalking features of AirTag worked as expected to help resolve a case of stalking occurred in the American state of Connecticut.

According to a matter of WTNH, a woman (whose name was not disclosed) received, in February 2023, an alert that a device was following her. At the time, she believed it was because a relative had forgotten a pair of AirPods in her car.

However, when she received another alert, this one on March 27 of the same year, she searched her vehicle and discovered an AirTag, which was stuck inside the rim of the car’s front left wheel.

She took the AirTag to the Connecticut police station, where officers were able to identify the tracker’s serial number; they then sent a request to Apple to provide the name of the owner, who was identified as Anthony Magro.

Identifying his name proved to be the only quick part of the police’s work, as physically locating him took nearly a year. Only last Wednesday (7/2), around 12 months following the first AirTag alert, Magro was detained by local authorities. The victim confirmed that he did not know the suspect.

Magro was later released on bail of US$10,000 and will be heard in court on 2/16.
