According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is poised to unveil the highly anticipated AirTag 2 in the middle of next year. While maintaining a design reminiscent of its predecessor, the upcoming AirTag 2 is expected to introduce three significant enhancements that could elevate the user experience.
AirTag 2 to come with 3 key improvements:
In addition to the AirTag 2, Gurman reveals that Apple is strategizing the launch of a state-of-the-art smart home command center that rivals the Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Hub. This innovative product could coincide with the release of the AirTag 2 next year, marking a broader expansion of Apple’s smart home ecosystem. Moreover, earlier speculations have confirmed Apple’s intentions to debut the iPhone SE 4, new iPad variants, and updated Mac models in the same timeframe.
Amidst these hardware initiatives, Apple is also enhancing the Find My functionality on iPhones, showcasing its commitment to improving user experience. Just last week, Apple introduced a new Find My feature with the iOS 18.2 developer beta 2, enabling users to share the location of lost items—even with individuals outside of Apple’s ecosystem—thereby enhancing tracking capabilities. This innovative feature simplifies the process of locating missing items attached to an AirTag, as users can now share a tracking link with authorities and friends, regardless of their mobile operating system.
The shared tracking link will automatically expire after a week or once the lost item is recovered, ensuring privacy and security. Additionally, a new “Show Contact Info” option in the Find My app allows users to enable a feature that directs recipients to a webpage displaying the owner’s contact information, including their phone number and email address, facilitating quicker and more effective recovery of lost belongings.
