Coordinating MINISTER for Economic Affairs (Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs) Airlangga Hartarto encouraged the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) to develop the semiconductor industry. Along with the progress of digitalization, semiconductors are being sought by the world to fulfill various industrial sectors, from electronics, gadgets, to automotive.
“Homework (homework) for Kadin is that we must support the semiconductor industry. In the future there will not be a single gadget or household product without using semiconductors,” he said at the Kadin Workshop at the Kadin Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/10).
Airlangga emphasized that Indonesia must not be unable to compete with other countries in developing chip products for the production of electronic and other equipment. The government and entrepreneurs, he said, must be able to utilize silica sand as the main raw material in the production of semiconductor products.

“Because the world is competing, we cannot afford to lose. We are completing the semiconductor ecosystem through one of the main raw materials, our potential is silica sand,” he stressed.
Airlangga added that several Indonesian companies have become semiconductor suppliers for global companies such as Nvidia. Apart from that, another potential is that the Batam area is also said to have great opportunities to attract investment in the semiconductor sector in the future.
“Therefore, Kadin’s role is needed as a government partner in making public policies, including developing the semiconductor industry,” said the Golkar Party politician.
On the same occasion, General Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) Anindya Novyan Bakrie said that his party supports various policies implemented by the government to create a calm and conducive business investment climate.
“As partners with the government, of course we can do whatever we can to help for the progress of Indonesia,” he concluded. (Ins/M-4)
