According to industry sources, the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has received a major order for 235 short-haul aircraft from the Indian airline Air India. The deal should be announced on January 27th. Air India wants to order a total of 425 short-haul aircraft, including 190 Boeing MAX aircraft in addition to the Airbus aircraft, it said. There would also be up to 70 wide-bodied aircraft, including 40 Airbus A350, 20 Boeing 787 and ten Boeing 777X.
Airbus declined to comment, Air India and Boeing were initially unavailable. Archyde.com had already learned last month that Air India might order up to 500 jets; at list prices including options, it might be worth more than $100 billion (€92.5 billion). In terms of volume, it would be the largest order ever placed by a single airline.
