This is currently only one concept artbut the Airbus Multi-Purpose Orbital Module (MPOP) promises many things for space exploration: an autonomous, but modular mini-module, designed to better protect its inhabitants, and above all to keep them in shape.
Why is this important?
In parallel with a new race for the Moon, we are experiencing a period of intense competition for a permanent presence in space, both in Earth orbit and around our satellite, or even Mars. The ISS is in its final years, and China may well find itself alone with a functioning space station. But not for long: NASA is increasing design contracts with private partners, Russia says it has its own projects, and even the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is working on its own station.
