The Airbus group recorded in the first quarter of 2023 a net profit in 39% dropthe main information concerning commercial aircraft being the postponement to 2026 the launch of the new cargo aircraft A350F.
In the 1st quarter of 2023, the European aircraft manufacturer posted consolidated revenue of 11.8 billion euros (down 2% compared to Q1 2022), with a decline in particular for the division Commercial Aircraft by 5% to 8.110 billion euros due to the delivery of 127 aircraft compared to 142 during the same period of 2022. The reported (consolidated) EBIT of this branch fell by 84% to 197 million euros, representing almost half of the group’s total (390 million).
Airbus consolidated net income was €466 million, compared to €1.219 billion in Q1 2020 (-62%). As of March 31, 2023 The manufacturer posted a backlog up 3% to 7,254 commercial aircraft, with 142 net orders after cancellations recorded during the first quarter (83 in Q1 2022), including 156 gross orders (Q1 2022: 253 aircraft).
THE forecasts published in February 2023 remain unchanged, Airbus specifying that “in establishing its outlook for the 2023 financial year, the company assumes the absence of further disruptions to the global economy, air traffic, supply chain, its internal operations, as well as its ability to deliver products and services”. Airbus plans approximately 720 commercial aircraft deliveries in 2023.
About the program A400M, “development activities are continuing in order to respect the revised capability roadmap. Retrofit activities continue in close coordination with the customer. Risks remain, in particular with regard to the qualification of technical capacities and the associated costs, the operational reliability of the aircraft, the reduction of costs and the ability to achieve the planned quantities, in line with the contractual schedule”.
We will also note the first postponement of delivery concerning the future A350F, originally announced for the previous year. Barely nineteen months after the launch of what the European aircraft manufacturer calls “the most efficient large cargo aircraft in the world”, entry into service is now postponed from 2025 to 2026.

These deliveries reflected in the first quarter results, which also benefited from the good performance of the Helicopters activities “said Guillaume Faury, Executive Chairman of Airbus, in the press release. ” We continue to evolve in a unfavorable operating environment, marked in particular by persistent tensions in the supply chain. Our 2023 forecasts remain unchanged with commercial aircraft deliveries more concentrated in the last months of the year. We will focus our attention on the ramp-up of commercial aircraft production and our long-term transformation ».
