Airbus A321 XLR and Boeing 787-9: This is what the new – and larger – premium classes from American Airlines look like

From 2024, American Airlines will offer suites in business class – and no longer first class. The number of expensive places increases sharply.

In 2024, the first Airbus A321 XLRs will take off for American Airlines. But the airline is already giving an impression of what it will look like on board – but only in the first two classes. Images show the new seats in Business and Premium Economy Class. The same – or rather: only slightly modified – seats will also be installed in the Boeing 787-9, which the airline also expects from 2024.

The airline’s Boeing 777-300 ER are also getting an upgrade. All that is said regarding the new economy seats is that they come with improvements. But it seems to be the front two classes that are particularly important to the airline. The number of premium seats in American’s long-haul fleet will increase by 45 percent, the airline said.

In Business Class, from 2024 there will be suites with lockable doors, a chaise longue option and of course a seat that converts into a flat bed. In the Airbus A321 XLR, the seats that American calls the “Flagship Suite” are installed in a 1-1 configuration, in the Dreamliners in a 1-2-1 configuration. The middle seats can either be separated with a wall or not if you are traveling together.

The color scheme is kept in subtle brown, beige, red and blue tones. The innovations can also be seen in the galleys. For the Boeing 777-300 ER, the installation of the new suites also means the dismantling of the previous first-class concept, the airline confirms to the Paddle Your Own Kanoo portal.

Possibility of a mini-first

It is possible that the airline chooses a similar option for the suites as Virgin Atlantic or jet blue: the front seats can be made a little more spacious or larger as required. For example, airlines can build a kind of mini first class into business class and sell it at an additional cost.
