Air Transat and Porter Airlines Joint Venture: Expanding Travel Opportunities

2023-11-29 02:27:01

Air carriers Air Transat and Porter Airlines announced on Tuesday the creation of a joint venture which should, ultimately, bring more and more Transat customers to fly on Porter’s wings.

A year and a half following entering into a codeshare agreement under which each company sold flights operated by the other, the two partners decided to take their relationship further.

With their joint venture, Porter and Airlines will be able to benefit from each other’s strengths. Air Transat is above all known for its network of international flights, both to the South and to Europe, from its Montreal hub. Porter Airlines, for its part, has mainly developed the Canadian and Northeast American market, from its headquarters in Toronto.

“This Alliance will allow us to take advantage of the domestic market served by Porter, use our fleet more efficiently and accelerate the expansion of our transatlantic presence,” commented Transat President and CEO Annick Guérard.

Following the code-sharing agreement in March 2022, Transat saw its ridership increase by more than 60,000 people, the company said.

With the deployment of the joint venture in 2024, Air Transat expects that, ultimately, 15 to 18% of its customers will connect with a Porter Airlines flight.

“Porter is revolutionizing the North American market with significant continental growth that will only be amplified by this Alliance,” explained Porter President and CEO Michael Deluce, noting that Porter is currently adding to its fleet up to 100 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
