Air traffic in China will not resume until 2023

Due to strict health restrictions in order to contain the pandemic, the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) announced on Friday that domestic and international flights to the country will not resume until next year.

Air traffic in China will be further penalized this year by the health crisis. The efforts of the Chinese authorities will focus in 2022 on controlling the pandemic by continuing the “zero Covid” policy. Beijing intends to develop its air traffic over the next two years. This policy has intensified in the run-up to the Beijing Winter Olympics and the start of the Lunar New Year travel season.

Development dynamics

After consolidating its efforts in the control and prevention of Covid-19, China will focus on growth, said the Civil Aviation Administration on the occasion of the publication of a new development plan on the sector. According to her, the Chinese authorities are targeting the period 2023/2025 for energize this sector, in order to increase the number of its domestic flights and restore those on the international market.

A less polluting fleet

With a view to increasing passenger and freight traffic, China also wants to increase the number of civilian airports by 2025, from the current 241 to more than 270.

In addition, the Middle Kingdom aims to reduce its CO2 emissions per tonne-kilometer over the next three years. Having a cleaner fleet will help China achieve its carbon neutral goal by 2060.
