Air offensives are increasing on the Ukrainian front. Pro-Russian authorities in Crimea reported that a Ukrainian drone was shot down in the early evening of Tuesday, August 1, over this peninsula. “An explosion occurred on the ground, grass and bushes caught fire”, announced on Telegram the governor of the city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvojayev. Baptized Batkivchtchyna Maty, literally “Mother of the Fatherland”, this monumental metallic sculpture represents a woman who brandishes a sword in one hand, and in the other a shield on which appear a sickle and a hammer. This one was cut out. The statue will soon sport a new shield which will bear a trident, the emblem of Ukraine. It was erected in 1981, in memory of the Soviet victory in the Second World War.
Moscow International Airport temporarily closed. Moscow’s Vnukovo airport was temporarily closed early Tuesday before resuming normal activity, state-run Tass news agency reported. It had also been briefly closed early Sunday during the previous drone attack reported by Russia.
Nicaragua accuses the United States and NATO of trying to “destroy” Russia.
