Air offensives are increasing on the Ukrainian front. Pro-Russian authorities in Crimea reported that a Ukrainian drone was shot down in the early evening of Tuesday, August 1, over this peninsula. “An explosion occurred on the ground, grass and bushes caught fire”, announced on Telegram the governor of the city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvojayev. Annexed in 2014 by Moscow, this region is regularly targeted by kyiv forces. Follow our live.

Several drone attacks foiled a few hours earlier. Russia already foiled a new Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow and its region on Tuesday, Russian authorities said, saying one of the drones hit an office building in a Moscow business district, already targeted in night from Saturday to Sunday. A drone “was neutralized by (means of) electronic warfare and, having lost control, crashed into the territory” of the business district of Moscow City, specified the Russian Defense. “There is no information about victims”, for his part, declared the mayor. Two more drones were destroyed by air defense over the territory of Odintsovo and Narofominsk districts of Moscow region. The Russian army also claimed to have repelled during the night an attack by three Ukrainian naval drones against its patrol boats in the Black Sea.

The emblems of the USSR removed from a statue in kyiv. It’s quite a symbol: workers removed Soviet symbols from a giant iconic statue in the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Tuesday, as Ukraine leads a campaign to remove symbols of the former USSR. Baptized Batkivchtchyna Maty, literally “Mother of the Fatherland”, this monumental metallic sculpture represents a woman who brandishes a sword in one hand, and in the other a shield on which appear a sickle and a hammer. This one was cut out. The statue will soon sport a new shield which will bear a trident, the emblem of Ukraine. It was erected in 1981, in memory of the Soviet victory in the Second World War.
