The Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation to clarify the situation of the alleged shortage of jet fuel in Colombia, which has led to the rescheduling of flights throughout the country.

The news of the fuel shortage, which has caused great concern in the aviation sector, emerged on Monday morning, generating confusion among authorities and citizens.

In response to the situation, the Office of the Ombudsman has sent a questionnaire to six key entities to obtain explanations regarding the crisis.

The institutions involved include the Ministries of Energy and Transport, Ecopetrol, Reficar, Civil Aeronautics, and the Superintendencies of Industry, Commerce and Transport.

These entities have a period of four days to respond to the nine questions raised by the Attorney General’s Office.

The investigation focuses on problems reported at the Cartagena Refinery, which could have affected the supply of JET A1 fuel, essential for air transport.

This failure in the refinery’s operation is believed to have caused the shortage that is affecting airlines.

President Gustavo Petro has clarified that the responsibility for the gasoline shortage falls on Terpel and not on Reficar. Through the social network X, Petro asked Aerocivil to investigate the flight cancellations, considering that there has been an abuse in attributing these problems to the Reficar blackout on August 16.

According to the president, “it is not correct to claim that flight cancellations are linked to the Reficar problem.”

A roundtable meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 2, at the main headquarters of the Attorney General’s Office in Bogotá, where the entities involved are expected to provide details and clarifications on the situation.

The Office of the Attorney General seeks to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to resolve the crisis and prevent future shortages.
