Air France and Transavia France have decided to extend the suspension of flights to Beirut until at least August 6 “due to the security situation”, the airline’s parent company Air France-KLM announced on Saturday.
The two companies had suspended services to the Lebanese capital since July 29 due to concerns about a military escalation between Israel and the Shiite movement Hezbollah.
The same source said that “the resumption of operations will depend on a new assessment of the situation on the ground” and that “commercial measures are in place to allow customers to book scheduled flights to and from Beirut until August 11” and to postpone or cancel their trips free of charge until 2024 (inclusive).
In addition to Air France and Transavia, several airlines have suspended flights to the Lebanese capital, including Germany’s Lufthansa Group until August 12. Lufthansa and Italy’s ITA Group also announced on Thursday that they would suspend flights to Tel Aviv for a few days.
Air France normally operates daily wide-body Airbus A330 flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Beirut. Transavia France operates single-aisle Boeing 737 and Airbus A320neo aircraft to Lebanon from Paris (8 flights per week), Marseille and Lyon (2 flights each) and Nice (1 flight).
