Air Caraïbes Strike: Passengers Affected and No Resolution in Sight

Already 10 days that part of the staff of Air Caraïbes is on strike. The airline’s flight attendants, stewards and ground staff affiliated with the SNPNC-FO union launched this movement on August 11 and extended it first until August 20 and then until August 25. A movement with which non-striking personnel and especially passengers must deal. And for the time being, no way out of the conflict is perceptible.

These words have almost become rituals for staff at the Air Caraïbes counters at Pôle Caraïbes. It is indeed necessary to try as well as possible to appease passengers who do not always understand what is happening and who, above all, feel that they have not been sufficiently informed regarding the situation and the conditions in which they risk traveling.

This Sunday followingnoon, there are crowds at the airline’s counters in the departure hall. If no flight is canceled, it often has to do with delays that confuse passengers. Thus, the 4:40 p.m. flight this Sunday will be provided by a chartered company and although scheduled for 5:30 p.m. might be postponed to 8 p.m.
Faced with this, some passengers find it difficult to hide their anger or, at the very least, their disappointment.

Others have resolutely decided to be patient in the face of a situation that is beyond them and that they know they cannot control. So waiting is still the best solution.

Obviously, the management of Air Caraïbes and the Dubreuil Group and the union on strike are not yet ready to harmonize their position for a quick exit from the conflict. The dissatisfaction of the SNPNC-FO led it to extend the strike movement, the first notice of which expired on Sunday 20 August.

Opposite, the new general manager of the Dubreuil Group and Air Caraibes believes that some of their requests can only be taken into account in 2024. In the meantime, she prefers to focus on the situation of the passengers whom the conflict penalizes.

In the meantime, the striking staff demonstrated this Sunday in front of the company’s headquarters. They will be at the negotiating table this Monday but already their strike notice runs until August 25th.
