The Canadian airline is suspending its direct flights to its four “sun destinations” from Quebec City’s Jean-Lesage airport for the whole of next winter.
Flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Cancún and Punta Cana are therefore suspended. Travelers from Quebec who wish to visit these destinations with Air Canada can still get there, but must now stop in Toronto or Montreal.
“Several factors are forcing us to make this unfortunate decision,” explains Christophe Hennebelle, spokesperson for Air Canada. First, there is strong demand for pilots in regional markets, and persistent challenges in supply chains. »
Mr. Hennebelle cites, for example, the maintenance of aircraft which take “more and more time” due to “greater difficulty” in obtaining certain parts. “All of this forces us to reconsider our network,” he says.
Air Canada, however, ensures that the suspension will only be maintained for next winter, for now. “Anyway, these are destinations that we only offer in winter from Quebec, except Cancún, where flights are canceled from October 23,” says Mr. Hennebelle.
The latter adds that direct flights to Cancún will be able to resume in the spring and that it is no longer possible to buy tickets for Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Cancún and Punta Cana for the winter for a week.
Air Transat and Sunwing still offer flights to these four destinations from Jean-Lessage airport.
