ALGIERS – Air Algérie inaugurates, Wednesday, its first direct flight Algiers-Douala (Cameroon) with a view to developing bilateral cooperation and opening Algeria further to the African continent, said the spokesperson for the national company, Amine Andalusi.
The opening of this line, scheduled for three (3) weekly flights, is part of the implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aiming to open the country further to African countries and to expand the Air Algérie network.
The opening of the Algiers-Douala direct line also comes as part of the implementation of the agreement signed between Algeria and Cameroon, in 2021, and the framework cooperation agreement in the field of transport and meteorology, signed last May, by the Ministers of Transport of the two countries.
Note that the President of the Republic had decided to authorize Air Algérie to acquire 15 aircraft for the opening of new routes, particularly to African and Asian countries.
In this context, the company has opened new lines to several capitals and cities such as Dakar, Abidjan, Ouagadougou, Nouakchott, Bamako, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa and Saint Petersburg, with a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation with these country and to make Algiers airport an airport hub and a gateway to Africa and the world.
The national company also intends to open new lines to Caracas (Venezuela) and Abuja (Nigeria) at the end of 2023, according to the Minister of Transport, Youcef Cherfa.
