Law enforcement arrested the shooter around 2:30 p.m.
In Nantua, in the French department of Ain, a “brawl” degenerated in a bar on Thursday morning. A man shot another person, fatally wounding her in the abdomen. Two other injured are listed, including a “person suffering from heart attack”.
The facts took place shortly before 10:30 a.m., explains the daily “Le Progrès”. A father and his son, seated on the terrace of the café, were targeted by the shooter. A 19-year-old man died at the scene and another, in his thirties, “was taken care of and airlifted to a hospital in Lyon”. Hit in the abdomen, he was classified as “absolute emergency”.
Evacuated area
The shooter then fled, according to the daily “Le Progrès”, and a large device was deployed in this small town of 3,400 inhabitants, about fifty kilometers west of Geneva. The daily adds that the shooter’s mother was arrested, and that around fifty gendarmes were on site, with a helicopter on alert.
As a precaution, the police initially maintained the security device – the pupils of the schools of Nantua had been confined.
