Go young people! Léa Moukanas created the Aïda* association so that under 18s can get involved with cancer patients their age.

Why did you decide to create the Aïda association?

The click came in 2015, Léa Moukanas lost her grandmother to leukemia. She then wanted to engage with patients to improve their living conditions in the hospital, but the specialized structures find her too young: she is barely 15 years old. Nothing stops it! “In high school, a lot of my classmates wanted to act too, so we created our own visitation project.“, remembers Léa. That’s how Aida Association (his grandmother’s first name) was born.

An association made up of young adults

The Aïda association works mainly between teenagers, today, 2,500 speakers, 80% of which are under 18! They are trained each year by the association to offer young people of the same age with cancer parties, games and other activities that allow them to escape and find the codes of their adolescence. With its “Highway to Health” program, the association also supports 200 young people at the end of treatmentthe time of a weekend, so that they get back in the saddle.

An organization looking to the future

Full of projects, Léa has just launched “The Academy for Teens and Young Adults” at Sciences-Po Paris : a totally innovative training to motivate those who have gone through the disease to become key players in the health sector. At the same time, it recruits new volunteers in the regions of Nantes, Bordeaux and Toulouse, to meet the needs of hospitals. And continues to animate the Instagram account @young.cancer, a unique space for exchanges and information. We said it, nothing stops it!
