10 billion euros of unclaimed benefits each year

We tend to think that the France handing out too much welfare. The alleys of the CAF (Cash Family Allowance) always seem crowded.

And yet, you would be surprised to learn that the astronomical sum of 10 billion euros remains unclaimed by the rights holders! And of course this is the part of the budget annual allocation to social assistance.

Who are these people who do not claim what is, in a way, free money? Well this may well be you ! However, it should be noted that social benefits cover a wide range of situations, which do not all necessarily depend on the CAF.

A large part of this unclaimed aid is due to the non-use of the disabled adult allowance (AAH). But also the education allowance for disabled children (AEEH). Their average non-recovery rate is 61% and 85% respectively. Thus, many households already overwhelmed by disability deprive themselves of valuable economic assistance, even if it is very meager.

Some households may be unaware of the existence of these benefits, others may not want to bother with the administrative formalities, still others may refuse on principle. But, as we have seen above, people with disabilities are not the only ones who can claim benefits without necessarily knowing it!

The RSA: one of the least requested services at CAF

It may seem very strange, but housing assistance and Active Solidarity Income, or RSA, are the benefits that are among the least requested by the French! Indeed, these are widely known to the general public and one wonders how some French people were able to to pass next to.

According to the specialists at MesAllocs.fr, housing aid has a non-use rate of 37%. However, this rate varies greatly from one region to another. In regions where housing is the most expensive, these aids are widely used.

In regions where housing is affordable, such as Creuse and Cantal, more than half of potential beneficiaries do without. On average, 72% of students do not ask for this specific help. Many still live with their parents, which explains these rates very high of not requested.

CAF

As for the Active Solidarity Income, or RSA, it is immediately much less understandable. The non-recourse rate has reached an impressive average non-recourse rate of 35%! For Vendée and Haute-Savoie, it even exceeds 70% of potential beneficiaries! The reason may simply be the lack of need for income support in these very rural areas.

All the same, we can only be surprised! The Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES) estimates the number of households concerned at 600,000. Don’t wait any longer and ask for the aid to which you are entitled from the CAF!
