Aichmes Pierrakakis for Tsipras and Androulakis – What he said in the Parliament

The Minister of Education, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, gave a double answer to both Alexis Tsipras and Nikos Androulakis from the floor of the Parliament.

Commenting on the statement of the former prime minister, that the law will not succeed, Mr. Pierrakakis commented in a mocking way addressing the benches of the official opposition, the following: “to share my relief. If it has the same fate as its public placement before your conference, fair wind in our sails.”

The Minister of Education also reserved a response to the president of PASOK, who earlier spoke of government ministers “who are fighting over who is the most genuine representative of the janissary order of the New Democracy”.

“The constant practice of the sultans is discipline. And the exercise of party discipline by a certain party in this particular initiative to be able to contain its internal disagreement and the disagreement at the level of its executives is the most typical of all”, commented the Minister of Education meaningfully.

The statement of Alexis Tsipras:

“From the 15% for Education of the 1960s to the Bread-Education-Freedom of the Polytechnic University and the struggles of students, students and their teachers in recent years, the struggles for public and free Education have always been intertwined with the struggles of our people for democracy, freedom and justice. Because a society that does not provide everyone equally with the right to education is a society doomed to wither.

The Mitsotakis government is attempting a reactionary revenge today. Legislates the possibility of establishing for-profit private universities, bypassing the spirit and letter of the Constitution.

Really, why for so many years, since the beginning of the nineties, while the ND has consistently supported the establishment of private universities, has it never occurred to them to proceed or propose their legislation, without the revision of Article 16?

Today they discovered that the Constitution is not an obstacle?

Obviously not.

This is another step in the downward spiral of the systematic discrediting of institutions, even the Constitution itself, by a government that, every time it is abandoned, simply replies that it was elected with 41%.

And above all, this is another opportunity to profit from vested interests. So big, that it cannot wait the three years required for the next Constitutional revision.

Education, however, is too serious a national matter for the democratic people, the youth, the teachers, the parents, the academic community to leave it at the mercy of governmental arrogance and speculation.

No reform in higher education, however necessary, can take place without serious dialogue with all stakeholders and society. Without the material means for its implementation. Without the necessary social consent.

Therefore, even if the establishment – despite the Constitution – of private and for-profit universities becomes the law of the state today, one thing is certain: It will not thrive.”

Androulaki’s speech

Nikos Androulakis sharply criticized the government, speaking in the Parliament regarding the bill concerning non-state universities, which, as he explained, PASOK will vote once morest in principle. “We are voting once morest on principle, we don’t trust that you want to strengthen universities, nor do we believe that you have a real plan for non-profit universities,” he said.

The president of PASOK picked up the gauntlet that the prime minister threw at him earlier, for his party’s stance regarding non-state universities. Mr. Androulakis defended Giorgos Papandreou by recalling what he said to the competent committee of the Parliament and saying that the attitude of his party has not changed.

Mr. Androulakis pointedly referred to the ministers who transferred from PASOK to the current government, saying: “And you, don’t you remember our position. Don’t your ministers remember her, who are fighting over who is the most genuine representative of the janissary order of the New Democracy?”

“You are unreliable, you are baptizing reforms and arrangements,” said Mr. Androulakis, stressing that PASOK’s attitude is such because their values ”and not strong financial interests” motivate them. Launching an attack on the government, he argued that “they are legislating in the interest of great interests” and added that the bill is being adapted with the acrobatics of the Constitution.

At the same time, the president of PASOK launched an attack on the press, pointing out that it is an arm of the government serving interests. In closing, Mr. Androulakis explained that PASOK will support the provisions that are in the positive direction and concern the public university.
