AI software for diagnosing diseases like a doctor is ready

Imagine you go to a medical center and instead of a doctor, you are examined by artificial intelligence (AI) software?

It may be hard to believe, but in the near future you will be examined by an ‘AI doctor’.

Yes indeed, Google is working on the preparation of an AI doctor that will help in the diagnosis of diseases.

Large language models like ChatGPT can be used to revolutionize the medical world and with this in mind Google DeepMind is working on this.

The Google DeepMind team has developed an AI model that can diagnose diseases like a doctor.

This model has been named the Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer (AMIE).

In this regard, a research paper stated that AMIE will obtain details from patients to explain the stage of their disease. This AI model will not be a substitute for real doctors, but according to the company, this AI system will support medical experts.

Google expects AMIE to make life easier for doctors by eliminating the need to visit patients. The AI model is still being worked on, so it remains to be seen how well it performs in the real world.

Earlier in July, a Wall Street Journal report said that Palm 2, a medical AI chatbot by Google, was being tested in various hospitals.

MedPam 2 is a state-of-the-art AI tool that provides medical details and solutions when asked questions. The AI tool was announced by Google at its annual developer conference in May 2023.

In May, a research paper published by Google stated that there are some concerns about the authenticity of the details of the chatbot and that doctors have observed some flaws during the trial.

But despite these flaws, MedPalm 2 has performed well in many respects and the tool works pretty much like a real doctor.
